Something happened to lacrosse. It used to be fun for everyone. Depending on where you lived, there might have been a local pickup summer league, you could attend the occasional summer camp, or spend hours against the wall honing your skills for the upcoming season. One thing is sure: playing lacrosse was much less stressful and certainly lighter on the old wallet.Today, the sport is filled with overpriced clubs, false promises, and family stress. And, from what I can tell, my generation is to blame for it. For nearly two decades, the never-ending expansion of club programs focused on “networking” and "recruiting tournaments" over player development have strained families and players financially and emotionally. As a result, players are devolving and growth is on the decline. Players often quit at too early of an age. They don't make a club team and/or don't get playing time at their high school because they refuse to play for their high school coaches club team (a way of cornering a kid to line their pockets). In much of the country, the opportunity to play even locally has decreased. #growthegame has become a signal for the opposite. Not all club organizations or recruiting tournaments are unnecessary. The rare ones that focus on training and player development over recruiting and "industry connections" are probably worth your money. But the simple pleasures of playing this great sport have eroded. We hope to change that. When the Sixes version of lacrosse initially showed its beautiful head, we did not see the obvious advantage. We were skeptical. However, as we looked closer, we began to see its potential. Fewer players per team, lower field costs, and simplified rules have kicked the door of opportunity wide open. This was a chance to offer families and players the opportunity to continue playing the game they love at a high level, at an affordable price, and without the unnecessary stressors.INTRODUCING SXS LACROSSENo recruiting * Make your own teams * Individual signups * Play locally (or at a fun destination event should the mood strike you) * Become part of a real community * 8-12 players per team * Improve your skills in the offseason * Save a few sheckles for that fabulous family vacation you've always dreamed of.SXS Lacrosse is all about bringing back the fun, community, and continued player development that has been vacant in much of the country. We offer leagues and tournaments the old school way-fun, fast, and stress-free. Drop your kid off at a local field to play, or enter an adults event and end the day with beers and laughs with some old, and hopefully new friends. Let's get back to playing as much as possible without the ancillary noise. We'll play the game and let the Joneses chase their own tales.Onward and upward!
